Lucida vs Quizlet
Quizlet has the bigger library, phone apps and teacher tools, but its free plan limits Learn and Test. Lucida gives you Learn mode, spaced repetition and live games free, with no ads, and it can make cards from your files, while your own AI (Claude, ChatGPT) can make and edit cards too.

The short version
Quizlet is the biggest flashcard site. Its App Store listing says over 60 million people use it, and its help center says there are millions of sets made by students and teachers.
Lucida is newer and smaller. It is built around free study tools: FSRS reviews, Learn mode, live games and sharing, with cards made from your files or by your own AI.
Where Quizlet is better
- The library. Search millions of public sets by topic, school or course. Lucida’s library of shared decks is new and much smaller.
- Phone apps. Quizlet has iPhone, iPad and Android apps, and they can study Flashcards and Match offline. Lucida has no App Store app yet and needs a connection.
- Teacher tools. Assignments, Classic Quizlet Live and teacher plans.
- Extras. Expert Solutions (step-by-step textbook answers), practice tests and study guides.
- AI inside Quizlet. Ask Quizlet, Smart Assist and Study Guides, plus an app in ChatGPT and a connector in Claude that build flashcard sets from a chat.
Where Lucida is better
- Learn mode is free: five kinds of questions made from your cards. On Quizlet, Learn is for Plus subscribers after a free study session.
- Spaced repetition by default, planned by FSRS, in any browser. Quizlet’s spaced repetition option is on its website only.
- No ads, free or Pro. Quizlet’s free plan shows ads.
- Your AI can do more than create sets. Quizlet’s help pages describe its ChatGPT and Claude connectors as creating flashcard sets. Lucida’s link also lets an AI edit cards, write Learn questions and see what is due, and you choose what it may do.
- Live games are free for everyone: any deck, up to 60 players, and players need no account. Quizlet’s Classic Live is started from a teacher-identified account.
- Your data out. Export every deck as CSV, or everything including reviews as JSON. Quizlet exports only sets you made, as text without images.
